Looking for a smartwatch for kids that doesn’t send notifications?

I’m on the hunt for a budget-friendly smartwatch or training band for my child, but I don’t want it to receive notifications. I’m concerned about distractions, especially in school. Are there any options that fit this need? I know you can turn notifications off, but they can easily be turned back on, which worries me.

You should be able to turn off notifications in the app. If you set parental controls on the phone, that could help keep it secure. You can even block the app from accessing notifications completely.

But keep in mind that

  1. Most smartwatches are designed for adults and might not work well for kids.
  2. Kids can develop unhealthy habits related to their bodies, which could lead to eating disorders. So really think about whether it’s a good idea to give a kid something that tracks their body constantly.

You raise good points. My child is almost 13, so I’ll need to limit restrictions. Your second point is really something I need to think about.

If the tracker doesn’t have LTE, it will need to connect to a phone for notifications. I assume your kid doesn’t have a phone, or it will be turned off during school. That means it shouldn’t send data to the watch during school hours.

You might want to focus on disabling the phone instead, as there are more options for that than for the watch.

I’m not sure if they need to use flight mode or just silence it during class. I’ll check on that.

I found a really good smartwatch for my kid called the Easyfone KW2. It has GPS, a step tracker, voice messaging, and the ability to make calls and chat. What I like most is that it isn’t addictive since it doesn’t have games or an internet browser.
