Help! Need a smartwatch that doesn't rely on HR sensor? Overwhelmed by choices…

Hi everyone,

I’ve done a lot of research and gone down a huge smartwatch rabbit hole, but I’m still stuck trying to figure out what would work best for me. I’ve only had an Apple Watch Series 3 so far, and while I was mostly happy with it, the wrist detection issue is super frustrating. The HR sensor doesn’t work with my tattoos, and I’m okay with not getting accurate HR data, but I really need a watch that doesn’t depend on the HR sensor for other features.

I’m looking for a few key things:

  • Customizable watch faces
  • Basic watch features like time, alarms, timers, and stopwatch
  • Weather updates
  • Phone notifications, especially for my calendar (don’t need to answer calls or texts)
  • Basic exercise tracking (I’m not super active)
  • Swimming-friendly (no need for deep water diving)

Some bonus features I’d love:

  • GPS for hiking (not essential)
  • Breathing and standing reminders like my Apple Watch
  • SOS feature independent of phone (not a must though)

Does such a watch exist? I feel like I’m stuck between a fitness watch and a smart tech watch, and I can’t find clear info on whether the wrist detection issue happens with other watches too. Help would be super appreciated…

Edited to add: I use an iPhone, so it needs to work within the Apple ecosystem!

Maybe the GW7 would work for you, though I’m not entirely sure.

I think you mean Galaxy Watch, right? (Just making sure I’ve got the acronyms right, haha). If so, I don’t think it’ll work too well with my iPhone though

@Ren
Yep, that’s what I meant, but now I see the iPhone issue, so never mind.

Thanks! I updated my post to make that clearer for future comments!
