I recently bought the Garmin Vivoactive 5 and have been using it for about 8 days. I planned to wear it all day, except in the shower, but after 1-2 hours of wearing it, my arm starts to feel uncomfortable. It’s hard to explain, but it feels like a tingling sensation from my upper arm, almost like when blood flow is restricted.
I’ve tried adjusting the tightness of the band, but it doesn’t help. I even tried wearing it on my other wrist, but the same thing happens.
I compared it with an Apple Watch SE, and it seems like the Garmin might be too heavy, with the weight concentrated on the dial and a bulging sensor at the bottom. This could be digging into my wrist.
Has anyone had a similar issue? I know my wrists are small, but I still want to keep the watch because I like the fitness features. Any advice would be appreciated!
Most smartwatches are oversized, unfortunately. You might try leveling the back-shape with some band-aids around the sensor area. It will make the watch thicker, but it could help distribute the pressure.
Some people are more sensitive to pressure or any sharp edges. For those who aren’t bothered, a narrow protrusion is actually a plus, as it allows the watch to sit tighter without the band. For others, though, a flatter or softer back might work better, but that could make the watch sit tighter and possibly worsen the issue. Since the Apple Watch doesn’t cause you problems, the tighter fit shouldn’t be a huge concern for you.
But it sounds like a lighter watch might be the best solution.

Thanks for the tips! I’m thinking about either returning the Garmin and getting the Apple Watch or keeping the Garmin and using it only for short periods.
@Charlie
I had a similar issue before with sweating and getting a rash from my old strap. My new Garmin Forerunner strap is much better, as long as I keep my wrist clean. I’m heading into summer now, so I’ll see how it holds up on hot days.
