I’ve been dealing with this frustrating issue that I can’t seem to get rid of. Every time I enable the PIN code on my Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 Lite, the always-on display (AOD) crashes after a while and stops updating the time.
When I disable the PIN code, everything seems to work fine.
I think the issue might have something to do with app access. When the PIN is on, it feels like the watch can’t reach an internal app to update the time for AOD?
Has anyone else faced this or knows how to fix it?
Well, the quick fix would be to just disable the PIN and report the bug to Xiaomi. Hopefully, they’ll fix it with an update eventually.
At least this watch has a brand behind it, unlike some of the cheaper Chinese watches where updates are pretty rare for bug fixes, both for the watch and the app.
If you want to troubleshoot, some watches have options for different AOD faces. If yours does, maybe try switching faces and see if the issue is still there.

Yeah, right now I’ve turned off the PIN, but I’m keeping a close eye on the watch. It feels a bit insecure to leave it charging without a PIN, especially in random places.
I’ve also tried switching AOD faces, testing different PINs, resetting the watch, and even pairing it with another phone.
Still haven’t figured out where to report this bug. Anyone know a good place for that?

It might be annoying, but one temporary solution is to manually turn off AOD and turn the PIN back on when you need to leave the watch for charging.
Some watches also have the option to turn off AOD for a set time. Does your watch have something like that? It would be super handy during charging or even while you’re asleep. That way, you’d only need to turn the PIN back on when you leave the watch somewhere.
