Why does my smartwatch need WiFi if it’s connected to my phone via Bluetooth?

I have a OnePlus Watch 2R. What exactly does WiFi do in this case? Isn’t Bluetooth enough for everything? And can I turn WiFi off if I don’t need it?

Without knowing the details of your specific watch, I’d guess that WiFi helps the watch fetch data when it’s not close to your phone. WiFi typically has a longer range than Bluetooth, and it might even connect to public WiFi networks.
