I currently use the Apple Watch Ultra 2 with GPS. I like a watch that’s versatile and durable, especially for outdoor activities. However, I have some privacy concerns and am looking for alternatives. Does anyone know of a watch that’s still versatile and durable, but doesn’t have a microphone and can’t be tracked?
I’m not sure such a thing exists. Smartwatches are mainly designed for convenience, and it’s hard to find one focused on privacy. They’re cool, but finding a ‘privacy-focused’ smartwatch is a challenge.
If privacy is your main concern, I’d look into open-source options. But honestly, these seem less interesting in other aspects. I don’t trust Apple or Google, and definitely not the Chinese brands. I believe they’re collecting all the data they can. Garmin might be a bit better, but I wouldn’t fully trust them either. They probably have to cooperate with agencies like the NSA or give access to backdoors.
Garmin is an option. Most of their models don’t have a mic or speaker. They’re an American/Taiwanese company, so their data security is pretty solid. One option is the Garmin tactix, which has some great privacy features like a kill switch (wipes the watch) and a ‘Stealth Mode’ that stops storing and sharing your GPS position. You could also look at the Fenix 8 series; it doesn’t have all the stealth features, but it does have a pin you need to access it after taking it off.
@Cameron
This is exactly what I’m looking for, thank you! I’ve been reading all the recommendations, and you’re the first to mention the Tactix. I really appreciate it, thanks again!

No problem. It’s not very well known unless you’re in military circles or a Garmin user. Also, the price can be a bit steep for many.
