Looking for a Smartwatch … Any Suggestions?

I’ve been reading through all the posts here but I’m still not sure what to choose. I really don’t like the Apple Watch design, I prefer watches that have a more traditional look. I’m an iPhone user and used to own the older Galaxy S3 Frontier, which I liked for its design. Now I want to get back into wearing a smartwatch, but the market is overwhelming.

It seems like Garmin has some of the better watches, but I’m not sure if the Epix Pro is worth getting since it’s about 2 years old. I want something with notifications, basic fitness tracking (I’m a casual gym goer, and I also enjoy hiking and kayaking), and sleep tracking. I’d also like a watch that allows me to change bands to suit different occasions, but that’s not a deal breaker.

When it comes to proper-sized smartwatches, there aren’t that many options.

I keep a list of the few thinner ones here:

If the price is right, the Epix Pro is a great option. Just keep in mind that you probably won’t get many new feature updates, but it’ll still work perfectly for your needs.

The offline maps are great for hiking (and kayaking, I use them often with my SUP or sometimes for offshore kayaking). If you plan on doing any white water kayaking, the 10atm water resistance should handle the high-pressure conditions just fine, and the strength training features are more than enough for a casual gym goer.

I’d check the price against the Fenix 8 to make sure the price of the Epix Pro reflects its age.

All Garmin watches come with changeable straps, either using the quick release system or the Garmin QuickFit system (which is what the Epix uses), and the QuickFit system has tons of strap options.

I’m in Rhode Island, so offline maps for hiking aren’t really necessary since most areas have cell service. But it’s good to know. I found the Epix Pro for around $450, compared to $900 for the Fenix.
