Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a smart watch for my partner but I’ve never had one myself so I’m not sure where to start.
He doesn’t really care about all the fitness tracking or extra apps but he’s been saying he wants one with a nice clock that lights up when you tap it, music, and the ability to answer texts and calls.
He has a Pixel, but he might switch phones down the road so I’m not sure if I should get a Pixel-specific watch.
Also, if we have different phone plans, would he need his own plan for the watch or could I connect it to my account as a new line?
Thanks a lot for any advice you can give!
If you want the smartwatch to work for calls while still in Bluetooth range of the phone, most smartwatches can do that, even the basic ones. They act like a speaker and mic for your phone, so no need for a separate line in that case.
If you want it to work for calls when far from the phone, then you’d need an LTE version with either an eSIM or a SIM slot. Whether or not that works depends on the carrier. It’ll be easiest if you both use the same carrier.
I would recommend getting a smart watch with a built-in speaker and mic if your partner just needs the basics. You can save some money by getting a non-LTE version and still get the features you’re looking for, especially if you’re just using it near your phone.
@Marston
Thanks for the tip! I think I might go with that since he won’t need the extra features.
I’ve used a few smartwatches, and I’d say go for one that works with all phones just in case he switches brands. That way, you won’t be stuck with something that’s hard to use if he changes phones later.
@Kade
Good point! I’ll look for a more universal option.
Maybe check out some smartwatches that are designed to work with multiple phone brands? That could help you avoid any compatibility issues later on.
