I have a Fitbit Versa 2, but it sometimes counts steps randomly when I’m sleeping or just shaking my hand. Is there any smartwatch out there that actually tracks steps accurately?
I don’t think there’s any truly accurate pedometer out there, whether it’s hardware or software. Even apps on the same phone can show different step counts, sometimes varying by 500–1,000 steps for every 10,000. The error margin gets bigger when you compare different devices, like a watch and a phone. I also get random step counts on my phone and watch often.
u/sqowz already answered this, but it makes sense since it’s worn on the wrist and not the ankle. It has to guess your steps, and sometimes it can get it wrong. For example, if you’re walking through a museum with your hands in your pockets, it might count almost zero steps.
I have a Chinese IDW20, and the step count is pretty close to what my iPhone says, more accurate than any other phone I’ve owned. But I do have to delete the app and restart it every few days because it stops receiving notifications and the phone doesn’t work right.
